otagoTech was founded by former property factors who have experienced the traditional problems and frustrations of property management first hand.
Heavy workloads, poor communications, frustrated homeowners, disconnected processes, and impossible to tackle inboxes…it all adds up.
The result? Poor staff morale, high turnover, and unnecessary complaints due to issues not being addressed quickly enough.
We decided it was time to do something about it - so we created STRATA.

Paul Callander
Chief Executive Officer
Our 'Head Honcho' Paul has extensive experience in the property factoring industry, having worked for a large prop tech company, and as a former Service Delivery Director in a prominent Scottish firm. He is passionate about delivering high-quality housing to both private homeowners and social housing tenants, and decided to combine his experience to create STRATA in response to the real-world problems he saw every day.
Paul leads the vision, strategy, and execution of STRATA, and prioritises real-world customer feedback in every stage of building our software, to ensure it solves the industry's most pressing problems.
Crawford Burns
Commercial Director
Crawford spent the first half of his professional life selling shampoo for a living! He worked for the cosmetic giant Loreal before pivoting from retail sales to software. He then spent almost 20 years developing and delivering software management systems for Health and Safety organisations in the UK.
In 2018, Crawford swapped Health and Safety for property management, and his expertise - combined with his commitment to creating positive client experiences - has made STRATA the tool it is today.
Jay Burston
Head of Engineering
With over a decade of experience, Jay is otagoTech's resident tech wizard. He has extensive experience in overseeing multiple IT infrastructures, leading technology development, and using innovative tech solutions to maximise business growth.
For the past two years, Jay has been leading the development of every feature within STRATA, continuously making updates and changes to streamline property factoring for our customers.
Karen-Ann McSwiggan
Training & Implementation Manager
Karen began her career as an English teacher, where she developed a strong interest in how technology can enhance learning. This passion led her to become an Education Consultant, where she trained teachers all around the world on how to use technology effectively in the classroom.
For the past six years, she has been specialised in property management software, with a focus on training and implementation within Scotland’s factoring sector. She brings these skills to otagoTech, and works directly with our customers to ensure they get the most out of STRATA.
